Overview
Seren Mawr, "Big Star" in Welsh, is a generous 8-metre glamping pod tucked into the hills of the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog), and every detail is designed for a romantic escape from it all. A superb 5-metre-wide window frames the magnificent views and floods the space with light, while inside you'll find a brass bed dressed in crisp cotton and a goose-down topper, a wood-burning stove, armchairs, sheepskins underfoot and lantern light for a proper romantic mood. The well-equipped kitchen, cosy dining area and thoughtful touches (right down to a wind-up radio and a wall-mounted OS map) mean you can happily hunker down on site. Completely off-grid, with water drawn from the property's own borehole, nothing here is taken from the grid, which is part of what makes the nights so dark and so special. Outside, a private hot tub and fire bowl look out over the hills, the perfect spot to watch the sun set and the stars come out. Available March to October, dogs welcome.

Seren Mawr sits within the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) International Dark Sky Reserve, one of the darkest and best-protected night skies in the UK, and the whole pod is set up to make the most of it. Because the site is entirely off-grid with no mains lighting anywhere, the darkness here is genuine and uninterrupted, exactly the conditions that let the Milky Way, planets and meteor showers reveal themselves in extraordinary detail. The magic of this stay is how easy it makes stargazing part of the evening. After a day in the hills, sink into the private hot tub as the sun sets over the hills, then, on a clear night, recline on the steamer chairs beside the fire bowl with a glass of wine or a mug of hot chocolate and simply look up. The huge 5-metre window means you can even lie in the brass bed and watch the sky. As past guests put it, "wine under the stars in the hot tub" is what people remember most about a night here.
