Overview
Robins Retreat is a luxury oak shepherd's hut set in an apple orchard overlooking the River Cuckmere, deep in the East Sussex countryside. One of three huts on a quiet, well-tended site, it's the only one with the wood-fired hot tub option, making it the pick for couples who want to sink into warm water under an open sky. Inside, it's fully fitted and snug for two: a king size bed that folds away to open up the living space, a proper hot shower and flushing toilet, heating for cold nights, and a compact kitchen with everything you need. Outside there's a firepit, a picnic table and seating with long views over the Cuckmere valley. Dogs are welcome, there's free parking and an EV charging point, and check-in is contact-free so you can arrive on your own time. Expect birdsong, fresh air, and the odd Spitfire tracing the river on a clear afternoon.
What's unique to this hut
The wood-fired hot tub (two-person, filled by paddle rather than bubbles for a calmer soak, available on stays of two nights or more). This is the only one of the three huts with a hot tub currently.

Stargazing guide
The hot tub is the headline here for stargazers: on a clear night you can lie back in warm water and watch the sky turn over the orchard, which is about as good as rural stargazing gets. The hut sits within the South Downs International Dark Sky Reserve, so once your eyes adjust the Milky Way is visible on moonless summer nights, and winter brings Orion clear and high. Bring the firepit to life first, let the embers die down to protect your night vision, then look up. Darkest skies are overhead and to the north, away from the faint coastal glow to the south.
