Overview
Owls Nest is a luxury oak shepherd's hut set in a riverside apple orchard in the heart of East Sussex, one of three quietly spaced huts overlooking the Cuckmere valley. Bright, cosy and welcoming, it's a fully fitted bolthole for two, with a fold-away king size bed, hot shower, flushing toilet, heating and a well-equipped little kitchen. Outside there's a firepit, picnic table and seating with those valley views, and after dark the twit-twoo of a real owl is often part of the soundtrack. Dogs are welcome, there's free parking and an EV charging point, and contact-free self check-in lets you arrive whenever suits. It's a proper reset: birdsong by day, deep countryside quiet by night.
What's unique to this hut
Named for the owls you can genuinely hear calling after dark, which makes it a natural fit for guests who want the full after-dark countryside experience. A recent guest called it bright, cosy and welcoming, and mentioned returning for the stargazing. No hot tub currently (that's Robins Retreat only).

Stargazing guide
Owls Nest leans into the night: the same owls that give the hut its name are part of what makes stepping outside after dark so atmospheric here. Within the South Downs International Dark Sky Reserve, clear nights reward a little patience, so give your eyes twenty minutes away from any bright light and the stars multiply. Summer offers the Milky Way overhead on moonless nights, winter delivers Orion and the bright stars of the winter sky. The firepit makes a warm base between looks upward. Best conditions are overhead and toward the north, with a touch of coastal glow low on the southern horizon.
